What's more important, quantity or quality of endorsements? How do YOU determine the quality of someone's endorsements?

Quality. Quality = they fall in line with your values and mission. They strengthen your brand. They make your users/viewers see you as more credible and valuable.

@Gary Livingston couldn't have said it much better than that.

determining the quality for me is about - how unique is their testimonial or how spot on are they really describing what they are championing me/it for? Like, do they really get it? can they put it in their own words what I do/represent, etc. Unique or own words does't mean it needs to be long either.

Another thing I look out for: Is it just a line that anyone can say? To me, that is not a good testimonial...I don't need it. It's not making me or breaking me any. If anything, it's watering down what I do and shoving me in the masses with everyone else in my direct competition or industry.

An endorsement or testimony should be something that makes the person reading it say 'wow, I need to take a look at this person,' or something to that effect.

The best endorsements are those unsolicited too, just wanted to add.

Quality. But quantity does have its merit as well. Unless that person coerced 1,000 people to endorse him/her as an expert in something he/she is not an expert in.

I think the endorsements are a good start, but need a few refinements.
    1. For a endorsement to mean more they should be limited (I feel you should be able to only give one endorsement per topic/category and have the ability to remove and re-assign an endorsement)
    2. The weight of the endorsement should be proportionate to the number of endorsements the endorser has received (much like PageRank works for websites)
    3. It would make sense to introduce a social influence metric such as Klout to balance the eco system inside of Namesake.

I think the whole endorsement thing has the potential to be the bifurcating point on the merits of NMSK if you let it. I would hope people will understand before a computer we ever invented people could game endorsements, i.e. Politicians of Religious Zealots. I also hope people don't let this point stop them from using and benefiting from a great platform.

My outlook has always been, If you are looking for trouble, you'll find trouble. If you look as these endorsements as a tool you can benefit from you'll undoubtedly find them useful.

I would like to be able to search for people to follow based on who endorsed the person vs. how many times they are endorsed and how aptly someone communicates something that resonates in the text portion of the endorsement. Empty endorsements just mean someone has a bunch of people willing to endorse willingly. Without some citation most endorsements don't influence me.

@Rob Bertholf I agree that weighted endorsements would add value to the endorsement process. I like the idea of incorporating it with Klout, but I also think there should be some kind of social graph connection so you can see the strength/depth of the relationship. You could do that through Hashable, or you could get really creative and do it on this site exclusively. I'm not saying its easy, but I do think there is value to that.

@Shawn Doc Boyd This question isn't actually meant to discourage use of the platform, on the contrary, actually, it gives users an opportunity to think about how they do and will utilize endorsements as Namesake becomes more and more part of their lives. Not to mention that @Namesake Feedback could potentially use this discussion as product development opportunity.

@Erik Engstrom : Good points and I especially like the search idea.
