What role do Namesake endorsements play in conversations?
  • 0 votes
Not a direct role, though typically people who are endorsed in an area Follow that area. Like let's say I'm an expert in cooking. So I follow cooking conversations. I will see cooking conversations (or conversations with that tag) appear in my Conversations stream. I may or may not join in.

Also, I may search/invite for someone with expertise in some area to join a convo. Let's say we are talking about, Africa, I might invite @Julius E. Sea Jr because he has knowledge in that area.

All that said, this isn't Quora (if you use that site). Anyone can join in and iS WELCOME to join in on any conversation, about anything. Think a really fun and interesting cocktail party, where you mix and mingle and join in or listen or comment.

Hello @Tara D. Coomans , Endorsements play a great role in know what topic people are involved in. There has been some pontification as to the validity of endorsements and if they hold weight. People can endorse a person in real life or online weather or not they have any real connection to that person or not. There is no stopping that. If I were looking for the cream of the crop on a particular topic I would look for endorsements that have actual comments to validate the endorsements. If you look at someones profile you can see their endorsement counts just under that you can see the comments about the endorsements. I would IMOHO pay more attention to the comments.

I hope the video clears this up a bit more. Aloha

@Tara D. Coomans Like @Andrea Fuentes and @Shawn Doc Boyd stated the endorsements come into play depending on the conversation. If its just general conversation/question that requires no specific form of expertise then the endorsements may one has may hold little weight. But if I have question that touches on social media strategy, I may invite you into the conversation or defer to your comments based on your expertise in the area.

I'm not sure I understand yet why I need a specific website to have a conversation? ... Ultimately aren't endorsements here just popularity votes?

@Derek Gabriel you don't, it's just a convenient tool to use. I have conversattions all the time on the phone or whatever. But Facebook and Twitter don't work so well for topical conversations.

@Derek Gabriel They are not intended to be. Of course it may be seen that way but it you note a ton of endorsements but no comments at to the endorsement they are most likely not as valid. Like I said before I look for the ones with a comment to back them up.

@Andrea Fuentes @Shawn Doc Boyd @Derek Gabriel @Julius E. Sea Jr : Thank you all for this interesting conversation. I completely agree with both @Derek Gabriel AND @Shawn Doc Boyd : for one, a large quantity of endorsements (especially at this stage of the game when there aren't tens of millions of users) suggests that the endorsements aren't highly qualified.
