I've invited
@Peter Pham
to talk about Color.com today. On another note, I've also started war-coloring (basically war driving with color to discover new people).

I'm pretty competent when it comes to using new technology. Part of me feels like I'm doing something seriously wrong and/or I just don't get what I'm supposed to do.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
There is a huge issue with privacty though that they need to resolve. Once connected to another user you are subsequently given access to all their prior pictures (from days earlier) as well as pictures from people they were connected to. ie. @Brian Norgard and @Scott Hurff have a session and share pictures. They are then both given access (even well after the current event) to each others pictures. Later @Brian Norgard and @Michael Oliver have a session. @Michael Oliver is now given access to @Brian Norgard and @Scott Hurff 's pictures!Michael Oliver • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Michael • +1

I have taken about 10 images already in color and in public places except have yet to find anyone on there! Looks interesting but until usage goes up dramatically, I don't see the point at this time!Chase Rief • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Chase • +1
-
I don't think they made people fully aware of how public of a service this is.Michael Oliver • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Michael • +1
-
@Chase Rief I am sure they'll find local density in SF and possibly NYC soon enough. LA is too damn diffuse today for a technology like Color.comBrian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
I'm super worried about people taking inappropriate shots. All it takes is one bad photo to ruin the brand.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
Hey guys. It's really more about you sharing an experience with others. Try it first with your friends, or coworkers. Go to a party, concert, sporting event. But do it with others. Less about "war-coloring" :)Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Michael Oliver Everything on Color is public. Treat it like a tweet.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham Are you guys pushing a new release soon?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Peter Pham Didn't you guys already push another update?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
Already pushed 1 iOS update, and several Android. But still working hard at helping everyone color together.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham Also, is there plans for a iPad application? I can imagine it will be super useful with the new camera.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Peter Pham Out of curiosity, are there any plans to improve the out of the box experience?Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
iPad I'm sure we'll have something someday, but priority is to get it out on more platforms/smartphones. Mobile first. Truly obilePeter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham Any plans for an API sooner rather than later?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1

@Kunal Anand yes, it's our #1 priority on the next revPeter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham Is there plans to focus marketing efforts on super dense areas like SF and NYC?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Peter Pham Seem like diffuse areas are a hard sell out of the gate ...Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Peter Pham I felt like I was floundering...a tutorial or an overview of the controls would have been interesting. Some things caught me off guard - I didn't know if I could scroll in some places or swipe (e.g. deleting a pic)Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
@Peter Pham Improving the onboarding is something you can do quite quickly if you know the problems—which I am sure you are aware of.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Peter Pham Does Color.com have a skateboard ramp in the office? Someone told me this.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Brian Norgard I don't think we're focusing on one area over the other. We are seeing amazing activity all over the world. The key is less about finding a dense area, but to get others around you to use it at the same time to get a whole new experience. You could be in the smallest populated city, but if you got everyone at the party, restaurant, sporting event, it'll be amazing.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham If that's the case can I come up and skate?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Kunal Anand swiping is a natural iphone thing to do, android is press to hold. An FAQ is going up today to help. We know we can do better.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham BTW, your office looks super awesome. The Color album view is really interesting. I felt like I was recreating your launch party.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham I see the approach. It seems rolling out like a Yelp solves the cold start problem but I'll defer to you guys on this one.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1

@Brian Norgard yes. you are always welcomePeter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham "we know we can do better." Props to you on that one -- not a lot of people are willing to say this publicly.Scott Hurff • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Scott • +1
-
@Peter Pham No way! I am getting ideas about a Namesake half pipe in our office.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Kunal Anand That's the point of color. When a lot of people participate, you get instant sharing, but at the same time you get a really accurate perspective of what's happening in real time. There isn't another experience that uses the network of smartphones to provide and tell a story that is accuratePeter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham How intense has the pressure been with all the news? Is it possible to tune it out?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1

@Peter Pham Could you share some info about how you guys approach product development/releases? Would love to learn more about how you guys think, develop, and release a new feature.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Scott Hurff Thanks Scott. We're working hard. It's a marathon. We just took our first few steps.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham I heard you're thinking about a special version for news outlets. Is that true?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Peter Pham rumor has it you're using more than just GPS data to locate someone -- you're using the video sensor, mic, etc. That true?Scott Hurff • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Scott • +1
-
@Brian Norgard yes, too much to type here, there's a great interview Bill did about it, that I think was yesterdayPeter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham Understood that it is like a tweet now but I feel my initial expectation was that my pictures would only be shared with people who I have a shared session with and not filtered down through their connection tree. I feel these feeling were especially intensified by the personal feeling evoked by photographs. Perhaps in the future photos will be as loosely exchanged as tweets but right now it feels incredibly invasive. I think doing a better job of advertising color as a publicly viewable twitter of photos would be more accurate than sharing a single experience with people. You are in fact sharing ALL of your past experiences with those people and the rest of the entire graphMichael Oliver • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Michael • +1
-
@Peter Pham I'd love to post it. Let me look.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1

@Scott Hurff not about "locating" someone, but making sure you are able to take pics with who you are with.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham People love text ... video takes so long when you want devour the information.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1

@Michael Oliver input noted. We'll try to address it and make it even more obvious. But we want to make sure everyone knows that it's PUBLIC, treat a photo on color like a public tweet.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham I honestly think this is one of those "wow" moments in technology. You guys just came out of nowhere and forced everyone to think in a different way about how we can use mobile.Scott Hurff • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Scott • +1

@Peter Pham Neat - you guys have the ability to make some amazing data visualizations with that data. We should get DJ on Namesake - would love to pick his brain :)Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham How do you deal with image spam? Seen any yet?Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
But don't dismiss it if you try it for the first time by yourself. Try it with 1 or 2 friends (preferrably more) next time you are at dinner, out at a bar. Even in the office at lunch.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham We're all using it in Santa Monica right now....Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1
-
@Brian Norgard no image spam. Because your device is tied to the system, and it's public. Every photo you take travels with you. So when you go home, your family will see those pics, when you are at work, your coworkers will see those pics. There is accountability in the system because of this. Also, if you get banned from Color, you have to buy a new $600 iphone ;). A lot more expensive than the web, where you can just create another anonymous user name.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham What's the average group size you're seeing? There was about 4 of us in the office...we ended up photo chatting with other people in the building.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham Ah, I see how you defend against the first line of defense. And the second.Brian Norgard • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brian • +1

@Peter Pham BTW, any celebrities using the application? I think it would be fascinating to be somehow involved in a conversation with a celeb.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

Been using it since it's release--only ever found one other person (in Santa Barbara) for a fleeting moment. In Los Angeles or West LA--no luck.Ralph Barbagallo • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Ralph • +1

@Peter Pham Have you guys thought about allowing people to increase/decrease their range? Would be fascinating to say "show me all photos in a 10 mile area" - might help the issue @Ralph Barbagallo is having.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
@Kunal Anand already had Jimmy Fallon use it. http://twitter.c...14257920 he ended up giving tickets to fans in the building next door!Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham So awesome! That's awesome stuff :)Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
@Ralph Barbagallo Ralph. You gotta have a friend, or someone that you see once in a while that has an iPhone or Android right? ;) Again, it's not meant right out of the box to be a people finder. We need time and scale. it's been 4 days!Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham What was it like building Color in secrecy? Was it tough maintaining radio silence?Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
I wonder ... is picture only the first step and color.com long term is about so much more, mapping local human activity in general and really we should not think about color.com as a photo sharing app but the killer, social network independent way of linking all human activity to local events ?Fred Destin • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Fred • +1
-
@Kunal Anand secrecy is tough. i'm a social person. Yes, almost 7 months not telling anyone was toughPeter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham Whoa! 7 months! The rumor around here was that you were doing e-commerce :)Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham Bill mentioned in yesterday's interview that you guys were patenting implicit graph but won't enforce it. Is the patent more for defensive purposes?Mike Puangmalai • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Mike • +1

@Peter Pham I'll be interested to try it out at Coachella (if the network holds)Brittany Laughlin • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brittany • +1
-
@Brittany Laughlin Seriously - sounds like a great use case.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
@Brittany Laughlin Coachella is gonna be insane. But you gotta tell the folks around you and the people that you are going with to use it. We definitely plan to proactively reach out to music festivals, etc. I want them to broadcast in realtime all the photos to the stage screen!Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1
-
@Peter Pham Obviously a question that you've probably been asked repeatedly is how you are planning on monetizing Color. I can see all sorts of options (tie-ins, promotions, etc.) - what are you guys thinking?Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
-
@Fred Destin you are insightful :)Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham You guys should reach out to the Greek - amazing acoustics coupled with Color's visuals would be insane.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Kunal Anand A few interviews on that. Including the calacanis interview. But we want to help businesses create a more social experience and intimate one at the same time. Think better customer experience.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham I'm in Chicago and haven't seen any activity. I run gtrot - we have members share travel plans to a bunch of big events - interested what our community thinks. I'll let you know.Brittany Laughlin • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brittany • +1

@Kunal Anand If any of you guys know musicians, promoters, agents, etc.. I'm all ears. We want every athlete to use this, musician, etc. They can give their fans a different perspective and reward those that are their that experiencePeter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham You have no idea how long I've wanted an app like Color for concerts.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham Who designed the logo?Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham I think it creates a pretty cool opportunity for public works of art too - imagining a comic-book like view of events nearby.Brittany Laughlin • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Brittany • +1

As you use Color, we start your elastic network. The people that you continually share a mult-lens with (group photo), and interact with thru likes, comments, etc. You will continue to see their content in the feed even when they aren't physically nearby. So you'll start seeing in real time what they are doing when they are using color in the app.Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Kunal Anand concerts seems like the killer feature.Dan Gould • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Dan • +1

@Dan Gould I wouldn't. It's against our TOS...Peter Pham • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Peter • +1

@Peter Pham How are you planning on maturing the Color website? I'm assuming you'll probably have a way to manage albums, etc.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham just because it's you, I'll honor your ToS.Dan Gould • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Dan • +1

99% of my facebook usage is helping others see what I see i.e. sharing great pictures of the world around me. I guess concert goers who take pictures are more of a social match to you then most of your friends so inserting them into a social stream app is pretty neat.Fred Destin • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Fred • +1

@Peter Pham Would be interesting to see how many degrees of connections it would take for you to reach a random person in the elastic network.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1

@Peter Pham With the kind of data that you guys have, I'm eagerly awaiting visualizations and infographics.Kunal Anand • Punt • Delete Comment • Mention Kunal • +1
